Angela Hackett exhibiting in ‘St. Brigid’s Day’
Studio artist Angela Hackett is one of 90 women artists exhibiting in St. Brigid’s Day at the Hamilton Gallery in Sligo. The exhibition will be opened by Mr. Ciarán Cannon TD (Irish Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) on Saturday 9th February and will continue until 2nd March 2019.
Folk custom, the four seasons, women’s lives and crafts, poetry, all intersect on the 1st February feast-day of St Brigid in Ireland. This exhibition, inspired by the poem ‘St Brigid’s Day 1989’ by Leland Bardwell, is a contemporary response to the changing significance of traditional female symbolism – not just in Ireland, but in all contemporary societies.
Each unique art work in the exhibition can be purchased through the Hamilton Gallery’s website.
