Mimesis – Alacoque Davey at the Crescent Arts Centre

Exhibition opens 8 April 7-9pm
Continues until 24 April
at Crescent Arts Centre

For this exhibition Alacoque Davey has created a series of new paintings, works on paper and 3-dimensional works.
“The ‘paintings’ are constructed. I approach them 3-dimensionally and think of them as flattened sculptural pieces. Similarly the sculptural assemblages refer back to the paintings. I am primarily interested in the materiality of substances (clay, plaster, paint, ink, wire, wood…..) and my studio practice focuses on how to combine and play with surfaces to create a unified space. Process regulates and drives the work; the pouring, scraping, cutting, layering, assembling, arranging and re-positioning of elements within a fixed picture plane, exploring the notion of absence and containment. Central to the theme of the work is this idea of absence and the ambiguity of ‘empty’ space.”
