WORKSHOPS

DAS are dedicated to providing affordable professional training for artists in the field of new media. DAS endeavors to make the classes as accessible and productive as possible, keeping the class sizes small (5 Participants) and the prices affordable. Each participant will have their own workstation and will have an opportunity to discuss any specific areas of interest they may have during the course.
The DAS workshop program is part funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the National Lottery.

Final Cut Pro Essentials for Beginners: Seamus Harahan
This workshop will be an introduction to Digital Video editing using Final
Cut pro.  The 3 day course will introduce particants to the FCP interface,
timeline layout, logging and capturing, tools, saving, filters, transitions,
audio editing, adding titles & preparing footage for export.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own video footage to learn to edit with.
24-26 March 6 - 8.30pm £70/£50

DVD Authoring: Alan Hughes
This DVD Creation course provides an introduction to DVD Studio Pro working
within the concepts and considerations when making a DVD.  This 1 day course
will include: encoding, importing media, linking up assets, menu creation,
markers, navigation, chapters, creating tracks and slideshows, building a
disk, burning and previewing the finished DVD. Participants are asked to
bring video footage / photographs / documentation to use as source material
from which to compile a DVD. Basic knowledge of Final Cut Pro is essential.

Graphic Design: Wendy Williamson
(Mainly focusing on Illustrator with some Photoshop, Indesign & Flash)
This intermediate course is aimed at those who have some basic skills in using computers and graphic design. The class will look at the theory and comparison between vector and bitmap artwork, the applications interfaces, creation of imagery,  ideas for illustration styles, typography and document layout. Some time will be spent on other programs including Photoshop, Indesign & Flash - so you can learn how to work easily between these programs. This class focuses mainly in Illustrator and on the technical side of graphic design,  specialising in design for print. Participants are encouraged to bring along any of their own work which they would like help or direction with.
17+18 March 6 - 8.30pm £60/£40

Digital Photography & PhotoShop: Helen Sloan
This three-day workshop is aimed at new users of Digital Cameras.  The
course will be an introduction to Digital Camera functions and how to get
the best pictures from your camera.   Participants will then learn how to
transfer the images onto computer and manipulate them in PhotoShop.
Photoshop has numerous features to enable you to subtly improve your photos.
14-16 April 6 – 8:30pm £70/£50

Digital Drawing: Duncan Ross
This two-day workshop will appeal to illustrators, comic-strip illustrators
and artists using drawing that wish to explore the possibilities of digital
image manipulation. Concentrating on Adobe Photoshop and
Illustrator, the sessions will cover practical introductions to the
packages, an investigation of the creative possibilities in using computers
alongside other methods of drawing, and preparing artwork for both
electronic and print publishing.
Participants are invited to bring along their own drawings, images and ideas
to explore how knowledge of image manipulation software can be used to
enhance their individual practice.
7+8 April 1 - 4:30pm £60/£40

Flash Beginners : Ciáran Máher
Aimed at new users, this Flash course teaches the fundamental production
skills required to create exciting and dynamic graphics, animation and
multimedia projects. Over 2 days participants will focus on the tools that
enable creation of vector and animation graphics as well as interactivity
for online distribution.  The workshop is designed to give basic information
in the following areas: illustrating, adding and editing text, creating and
editing symbols, understanding layers, creating buttons and tweened
animations.  
21+22 March 10:30am - 4:30pm £90/£60

Flash Intermediate: Ciáran Máher
This course is aimed at those who have basic skills in Flash or who have
completed the beginner’s course. Over the two days participants will develop
their skills and knowledge covering more advanced levels of Flash.
25+26 April 10:30am - 4:30pm £90/£60

Dream Weaver Beginners: Ciáran Maher
Aimed at new users; this course comprises an introduction to the Dream
weaver Environment. This course will place an emphasis on how to get your
work on the web, outlining CSS (cascading style sheets) and publishing.
Participants will make simple web pages and are encouraged to bring
photographs/documentation of their work to use as source material from which
to compile a website.
14+15 March 10:30am - 4:30pm £90/£60

Dream Weaver Intermediate: Ciáran Maher
Aimed at those with who have completed the beginners course or have basic
web design skills; this course will push participants to the next level of
web design. This course will place an emphasis on how creating more
sophisticated web pages and practical steps to getting your site on line.
Also participants with their own new / existing sites are encouraged to
bring their FTP details.
