Gemma Anderson
Drawing is the basis of all of Gemma's work. To her, line has an economy that lays comparisons bare and unifies an otherwise classified order. Through research, intution and observation she explores the metaphors that plants, animals and objects offer on the human condition.
When talking about her work Gemma has said:
'As the distance we create between ourselves and the plant and animal world increases so does my fixation on the image of our innate relation and interdependence. I collage subjects according to resemblance of form, function and feeling to create allegorical portraits. Fearing homogeneity and longing to find and portray the obscure drives my work.'
