In May 2013, Queen Street Studios & Gallery relocated to new premises on Bedford Street.

Through our Capital funding programme we have been able to help QSS take the next step in their development. Accessibility is vital if we are to grow audiences for our flourishing visual arts scene. QSS are instrumental among a number of studios in ensuring local talent receives appropriate exposure and support.

QSS Studios currently provides twenty three subsidised studio spaces for artists who work in various mediums and who are at different stages of their career while the QSS Gallery provides a unique resource for visual artists, which showcases innovative & contemporary visual art in Belfast. The development and sustaining of community engaging projects is the primary aim of QSS Studios & Gallery.

Through exhibitions, proper provisions for artist studios, artist talks, and open studio days, QSS gives both artists and the public an opportunity to engage with the local, national, and international community.

QSS Gallery was launched in 2000 to fill an ever expanding need for Gallery provision in Belfast. Initailly it serviced the exhibition requiremnets of it members but in 2002 the programme was developed and broadened in order to provide an open submission policy. We programme 8 to 10 exhibition’s annually and select from a pool of developing and established artists.  These exhibitions are selected from an annual open submission that is advertised internationally to both established and emerging artists. The exhibition space is located on the ground floor of the QSS at Bedford Street premises.

The QSS Gallery’s programme of exhibitions aims to promote contemporary art by providing an accessible platform for the public to view work and meet those who create it.

It also creates an opportunity for visitors to participate and learn about the visual arts long before it enters the mainstream.  QSS Studios & Gallery provides a unique resource and venue for visual artists, which showcases innovative and contemporary visual art in Belfast.

QSS strives to enhance the reputation of its artists, both at home and abroad, through the provision of curator’s visits, art and exhibition opportunities, and regular information sharing.

QSS aims to promote and facilitate individual creativity for professional artists in order to support a high caliber of production. It is QSS’s objective to nurture the production of artwork that will enhance local, national, and international experiences in the visual arts. Exhibitions and Studio information

QSS Artist Studios and Gallery is unable to consider speculative proposals from artists outside of advertised opportunities. Our programme of exhibitions is planned up to 12 months in advance and proposals are considered usually around Autumn time via an ‘open call for submissions‘ process.

This is also the case for applications to rent a studio at QSS.  All opportunities that arise are advertised via our social media platforms, this website and our mailing list.

QSS is always open to opportunities to work with other galleries, collectives, festivals and education establishments. Our mailing address is gallery@queenstreetstudios.net
